One of the most breathtaking experiences in Dubrovnik is watching the sunset from Srđ Hill. While there are many great spots in the city to enjoy the evening glow, Srđ Hill stands out as the ultimate choice for its panoramic views over Dubrovnik and the Adriatic Sea.
How to Reach the Top of Srđ Hill
There are several ways to get to Srđ Hill, depending on your preference for adventure, comfort, or speed.
Hike to Srđ Hill
For those who enjoy an active lifestyle, hiking to Srđ Hill is a rewarding option. You can take one of two main routes:
- Via Bosanka Village: If you’re starting from Dubrovnik’s Old Town or nearby areas, the easiest way up is via Bosanka Village. The road is frequently busy with cars but offers excellent photo opportunities.
- Scenic Forest Trail: A more pleasant walk begins north of Dubrovnik, near the Adriatic Highway. This marked trail starts from the bus station above the viaduct and consists of 14 switchbacks leading to the Imperial Fortress at the summit.
Dubrovnik Cable Car – The Fastest Route
The most popular and convenient way to reach the top of Srđ Hill is by taking the Dubrovnik Cable Car. The ride takes just three minutes from the station near Buža Gate in the Old Town.
Cable Car Tips:
- Arrive early before sunset to secure your spot, as wait times can be 45 minutes or more.
- The cable car cabins hold 33 passengers, and reservations are not available.
- After reaching the top, walk out of the station for an unobstructed view, as cables can block the perfect shot from inside.
Cable Car Ticket Prices:
- Adult round-trip: €27
- Adult one-way: €15
- Children (4-12) round-trip: €7
- Children (4-12) one-way: €4
- Children under 4: Free

Drive to Srđ Hill – If You Dare!
If you prefer to drive, you can reach the summit by car or taxi. However, this is not the recommended option due to:
- Narrow, steep roads with frequent traffic congestion.
- Limited parking at the top.
- Challenging driving conditions – frequent stopping and reversing due to oncoming traffic.
That said, driving does offer flexibility and plenty of scenic stops for photos along the way.
