The Easiest Way to Travel from Dubrovnik to Kotor

Hello from sunny Dubrovnik!

If you’re planning to visit Kotor from Dubrovnik (or the other way around), you’re not alone. Every week I get messages from travelers asking how to do it without losing hours at the border.

So, here’s the good news: there’s a new, easier, and much more beautiful way to get to Kotor.

The Usual Problem: Long Border Delays

During the high season, the road to Kotor can be… well, a test of patience. Especially around the border crossing at Debeli Brijeg, traffic can stretch for hours. And if you’re on a tight schedule or only visiting for the day, those hours can be a deal-breaker.

I wrote more about what to expect at the border and how to prepare here:

But let’s not give up on the idea of visiting Kotor! It would be a shame to miss out just because of traffic.

The Better Solution: Dubrovnik – Kotor Catamaran

Last year, Kompas launched a catamaran line between Dubrovnik and Budva—and due to high demand, this year they’ve added a direct line to Kotor!

Why is this great?
Because not only do you skip border delays, but you also get to sail through the Bay of Kotor, one of the most stunning natural sights in this region. It’s the only fjord-like bay on this part of the Adriatic, and approaching Kotor by sea is a magical experience.

Details You Need to Know

  • The catamaran sails twice a week, on Mondays and Wednesdays.
  • You can book tickets directly via Kompas.
  • Travel time is shorter and more comfortable compared to car or bus.
  • Bring your camera—the views are unforgettable!

So, if you’re planning a trip between Dubrovnik and Kotor this summer, this is the most scenic and relaxed way to do it.
Hop aboard and enjoy the ride—you’ll thank yourself later.

See you on the water!
