Built between the 12th and 17th centuries, these stone giants offer the most iconic views of the Adriatic and our famous red rooftops.

But let’s be honest: at 40 EUR per person, it is a significant investment for any traveler. Here is my local insider guide on how to buy tickets, how to save money, and—most importantly—how to avoid the crowds.

Don’t just walk—understand the legend.

How Much Does It Cost in 2026?

A single ticket to access the city walls costs 40 EUR. This ticket is quite powerful as it includes:

  • The Full 2-km Loop: A walk offering breathtaking panoramic views.
  • Lovrijenac Fortress: Often called the “Gibraltar of Dubrovnik,” located just outside the walls.
  • St. Lawrence Entrance: Access to the western fortifications.

Where to Buy Your Tickets

  1. Online (Recommended): Skip the lines and buy via the official site www.dpds.hr.
  2. On-Site: There are three main entrances where you can pay by credit card: Pile Gate (busiest), Ploče Gate (quieter), and the Maritime Museum entrance.

⚠️ The “Vesna Trick”: Dubrovnik Pass vs. Single Ticket

This is where most tourists lose money!

  • A single Wall ticket is 40 EUR.
  • A 1-Day Dubrovnik Pass is 45 EUR. For only 5 EUR more, the Pass gives you the Walls PLUS entry to the Rector’s Palace, Maritime Museum, Franciscan Monastery, and free public transport. If you plan to see even one museum, the Pass is a no-brainer.

Best Time to Walk

Avoid: 10:30 AM to 3:00 PM (This is when the cruise ship groups take over).

Early Birds: Be there at 8:00 AM sharp.

Golden Hour: 2 hours before closing.

Whether you choose to walk the walls at sunrise or catch the golden light of the afternoon, take your time. Don’t rush—most visitors finish in about 2 hours, but I always say: stay a bit longer, look at the horizon, and imagine the centuries of history beneath your feet.

Enjoy every step of this breathtaking journey!

See you in Dubrovnik!

Essential City Walls FAQ

Should I buy a single ticket or the Dubrovnik Pass?
Definitely the Dubrovnik Pass. Since both cost exactly 40 EUR, the Pass is much better value. For the same price as the walls, you also get free entry to top museums and local bus transport for 24 hours.

Can I buy tickets with cash?
Most official sales points now require credit cards. It is much faster and more reliable to have your card ready or buy your Dubrovnik Pass online in advance.

Is the walk difficult?
There are exactly 1,190 steps along the 2km loop. It is not wheelchair accessible and involves several steep climbs. We highly recommend wearing comfortable sneakers and taking your time.

Is there shade on the walls?
Very little. The white limestone reflects the sun, making it feel much hotter than at sea level. Always bring a bottle of water and a hat, especially from June to September.
