Dear visitors, welcome to Dubrovnik!
As you stroll through the enchanting streets of the Old Town, it’s easy to get swept up in the moment. But remember – Dubrovnik is more than a postcard-perfect setting; it’s a living city with residents, history, and yes, some dress code rules.
Dubrovnik’s Old Town is UNESCO-protected – and for good reason
Since 1979, the Old Town has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site thanks to its incredibly well-preserved medieval layout, architecture, and cultural importance. Walking through Stradun is walking through centuries – and that deserves respect.
Dress code matters
Walking shirtless, in a swimsuit, in underwear – or completely nude – is strictly prohibited within the city center. These actions are not only inappropriate, but also subject to municipal fines.
Sun protection and social comfort
Let’s not forget – summer here is hot. Wearing light clothing keeps you protected from harmful UV rays. Plus, Dubrovnik’s narrow streets mean close contact – and no one enjoys brushing against a sweaty bare stomach in a crowd.
Game of Thrones fans: don’t reenact the “walk of shame”
After HBO aired the famous “walk of shame” scene featuring Cersei Lannister, some overly inspired (and overly tipsy) visitors decided to recreate the moment… nude. While it may sound funny, it’s not – in real Dubrovnik, it’s a serious offense.
Fines go up to €150
A first-time warning might be given kindly, but repeated behavior can result in a fine of up to €150. That’s money better spent on gelato or a nice dinner.
Respect the City – the message is everywhere
You’ll notice signs all over town that say Respect the City. These posters outline what’s expected of visitors, helping preserve the dignity of the city and the comfort of all who share its streets.
Final thoughts
To enjoy #Dubrovnik responsibly, dress appropriately and be part of the reason this city remains special. A simple shirt can go a long way in showing you care.
See you on the streets – fully dressed and smiling! 😊
