Hello everyone!
Dubrovnik, a city known for its radiant stone streets, never ceases to surprise — by day or by night. This year, the city became the stage for something truly special: LUMIART 2023, Dubrovnik’s very own Festival of Lights, which turned the ancient walls and streets into a canvas for light, color, and imagination.
From Friday, November 3rd to Sunday, November 5th, visitors were invited to experience the magic of light through a series of urban installations and audiovisual performances, created by visionary artists from Croatia and around the world.
A Light Odyssey Through the Old Town
Like stars scattered across the night sky, or the golden dawn bathing the rooftops, Dubrovnik’s historic beauty was elevated into a living artwork. The Lumiart Festival captured this magic by dressing the Old Town in mesmerizing light displays and interactive creations.
Walls that have stood for centuries, silent witnesses of history, were transformed into dynamic surfaces of light — illuminated by stories, sounds, and the sheer brilliance of modern creativity.
Lumiart 2023: Where Light Tells Stories
This triennial festival brought three unforgettable nights to Dubrovnik, offering a sensory journey across iconic landmarks and hidden corners alike.
From elegant light installations to emotionally charged audio-visual spectacles, Lumiart 2023 opened new doors to artistic expression, blending heritage and innovation in a city where the past and future meet at every corner.
Festival Highlights: Light, Sound & Emotion
Some of the most captivating moments from this year’s festival included:
- “Heart of Europe” by Edina Seleković, a Bosnian-American artist, installed at Peskarija. This glowing heart-shaped light pulsed rhythmically, accompanied by sound, symbolizing life, connection, and unity.
- AmbiArt projections by Night Projection (Hungary) lit up Stradun, the city’s main street, with dreamy visuals that enchanted every passerby.
- Interactive installations in Pile Park and near Cele Bar brought joy to children and families, blending play with light.
- A laser harp in the Rector’s Palace courtyard gave music lovers a chance to “play with light” — an experience as surreal as it sounds.
- The Sponza Palace façade featured immersive 3D mapping and visual storytelling, designed by Pixel Design and Loop Production.
- In the same atrium, the “Tesseract” LED installation by Visualia Group (Pula) amazed visitors with geometric light illusions.
- The standout exhibit “Dubrovnik AI Imaginarium” by Antun Radačić offered a futuristic look at Dubrovnik through the eyes of artificial intelligence — a fascinating blend of digital art and local culture.
